2013 Interior Design Trends

2013 Interior Design Forecast

As each year comes to an end I get curious as to what interior design trends the following year will bring. This year has been filled with attention grabbing orange, a range of metallic leathers, and rustic faux bois motifs – just to name a few. So, what do you think will pop up in 2013? I predict that we will continue to see these hip interior design trends evolve and bring in a new list of exciting things – the trends of the future.

Color:

Neons and bright colors, such as Pantone’s Tangerine Tango, were all the rage in 2012. Next year the palette is getting a little softer with a pale yellow and wide range of blues. These two colors are being used almost as a neutral, what would be black is now navy. Blue and yellow are not the only colors of 2013, the show-stopper is bright red!

Fabrics:

Believe it or not, we are seeing animals for 2013. No, not zebra or cheetah print, but realistic animals are hitting the fabrics. Elephant and dog are among some of the most popular.

Tapestry is another big hit this coming year. Top interior designers are going back to this old-world look for anything from dining chair upholstery to wall art.

What a fun use of tapestry, a faux deer head! Available through Bergdorf Goodman.

Stripes and flowers are going to be some of the staple patterns in 2013 interior design. Floral designs are getting a modern and painterly look this year, while stripes are still going strong in an array of widths and colors.

These fabrics from Schumacher encompass a number of the upcoming trends – blue, mellow yellow, stripes, animals, and floral motifs.

Interior Design Styles:

Two of the trending styles are femme fatale and metropolitan. Femme fatale is a feminine, but not girly, look – think 1940’s Hollywood with soft curves and pops of purple. Metropolitan style is all about clean lines, with an industrial feel.

The purple Elsa Ottoman from HB Home is a perfect touch for the femme fatale style.
