Hampton Classic:
The Look

Labor day marks the end of summer, white pants, and seersucker for the year. Labor Day also marks The Hampton Classic, a local tradition in The Hamptons and one of the largest outdoor horse shows in the United States. The event is the embodiment of the lifestyle, fashion, and décor of The Hamptons – a truly classic essence.

The Hamptons are known for their sophisticated take on nautical-themed décor. The immaculate white sand, swaying beach grasses, and ocean crashing on the shore are the perfect backdrop and natural inspiration for this crisp, clean, yet elegant design aesthetic.

Linens, seashells, driftwood, and beach-inspired palettes are abundant in the Hamptons’ interior design world. This vintage Karl Springer coffee table, available exclusively through my DLD showroom, would be perfect atop a natural Sisal Carpet. And Ricky Lauren, the wife of Ralph Lauren, recently wrote a book, The Hamptons, that would stack perfectly on the shelf with other nautical-themed coffee table books. Ralph Lauren has also provided us with two great fabric and home décor lines that embody the tranquil elegance of the seaside, the Rosecliff and La Plage collections. And you can’t forget about nautical and equine inspired fabrics from Bennison Fabrics, available through one of my favorite NY and LA showrooms, George Smith.

I was out shopping yesterday for an upcoming project in The Hamptons and hit up a few places in West Hollywood to see if I could find that classic look. Some standout showrooms were Lee Stanton Antiques, George Smith, and Schumacher Fabrics. Upon my arrival to NY this week, I will be sure to stop by my favorite new spot for Hamptons design – English Country Antiques, located in Bridgehampton, NY. They have incredible nautical prints, fabrics, and antiques.

Just because Labor Day means no more wearing white, it does not mean you can’t be surrounded by it in your home! The sophisticated casualness of Hampton décor compliments its pristine lifestyle perfectly. When aiming for this classic look be sure to remember: clean lines, crisp colors, natural fibers, and most of all, high-class!
