I am very pleased to be on the board of Jazz Aspen Snowmass.  It was founded in 1991 in support of music education for the Aspen Valley Schools.  This non-profit organization pursues the preservation and education of Jazz, American, and popular music through festivals, perfomances, and education programs.  Every summer, JAS has presented a festival in celebration of music.  What started as a 3 day festival is now a summer long series of events.

JAS also sponsored an ongoing event called “Band Battles ’09” in which students up to High School age can compete.  The event includes musical talent from garage bands, individual musicians and student bands.

I had a fabulous time this year and the line-up of perfomers  was outstanding!  I attended the Labor Day Weekend Event this year which was a three day event.  With names like Michael Franti, Black Eyed Peas, the Doobie Brothers, Citizen Cope, Umphrey’s  Mcgee, Elvis Costello, Drive By Truckers, and The Allman Brothers…this summer’s festival was truly a star studded affair.
