Jazz Aspen Snowmass June Festival

As many of you may know, I am very passionate about Jazz Aspen Snowmass, a non-profit organization with a mission of preserving Jazz and related forms of music.  In support of musical education, Jazz Aspen Snowmass holds several concert series throughout the year.  The much-anticipated June Festival is swiftly approaching and I was very excited to hear the lineup for this year.  JAS has an amazing ability to always “top” the previous years’ events, and the 2012 Festival is no exception.

New to the festival this year is the nightly “Lawn Party.”  Each night, the Benedict Music Tent will open its grounds prior to the main stage concert for a Lawn Party featuring live music and outstanding food and beverage vendors.  The main stage concerts will begin at 8:30 nightly, after the “pre-party.”

This year’s June Festival line-up is quite exciting.  Grammy award-winning singer-songwriters Donald Fagen, Michael McDonald, and Boz Scaggs will appear together on the first night, June 22nd, as The Dukes of September Rhythm Revue.  The next evening, the legendary Joe Cocker will take the stage and give us some of his British soul.  To follow up Cocker’s performance, K.D. Lang and her new band, The Siss Boom Bang, will appear on the stage on June 24th.

In addition to the world-class musicians at the Benedict Tent, you can also listen to soulful and intimate Jazz musicians at JAS’ own nightclub, JAS Café, located in the lower level of the Little Nell Hotel.  Showtime begins at 7:30 and 9:30 nightly.

Tickets for this charitable event are on sale through the JAS website as well as through the Belly Up box office (970-544-9800) in Aspen.  Festival proceeds benefit JAS Music Education Programming, preserving musical education for local students and schools.  Come out and give your support, it is such an important part of education and JAS is aiding in its survival in so many ways.  I hope to see you there!
