Every year I visit Aspen for the acclaimed June Festival put on by Jazz Aspen Snowmass. This year JAS put on their 21st annual festival. June Fest is a 10-day event of free and paid daily performances as well as four nights of headline concerts. This year’s top acts included Sheryl Crow and American Idol winner Jennifer Hudson.
I love the amazing talent that the festival brings year after year and it is always a joy to see the giving nature of JAS. JAS is a not-for profit organization that strives to preserve music and gives back to the youth through music workshops and other educational programs.
Another philanthropic event of the season is ‘Boogie’s Bash for the Buddies’, which supports the Buddy Program of Aspen. This is another group that gives back to the youth through educational programs and mentors. They pride themselves in that they “connect our youth with the resources they need to succeed.”
‘Boogie’s Bash’ is one of the best parties of the year and was held on top of a mountain, transforming the sun-deck into a magical room! The evening started with a silent auction and bites to eat from some of Aspen’s finest restaurants. Late night music with DJ toni*K really pumped up the crowd and got everyone on their feet. It was a great success raising money for all the youth in the Buddy Program.
I have made many beautiful friends in Aspen, and see my time there as some of the most memorable. The combination of the giving nature of the people and the gorgeous scenery are truly an inspiration. Thanks to all that came out and supported both JAS and the Buddy Program, we hope to see you all again next year!
