Oh me Oh miami!

Earlier this month I escaped the winter wonderland of New York in search of top interior design and art inspiration in Miami, Florida. This year Miami Beach hosted the 12th edition of Art Basel, the most prestigious art show in America. The galleries that exhibit each year are among the world’s most respected dealers, offering pieces by both cutting-edge newcomers and renowned artists. Occurring alongside Art Basel is Design Miami, where I met up with fellow interior designers of the Leaders of Design Council to explore the high-end, modern design fair. Both Art Basel and Design Miami are amazing annual opportunities to see the best of the best when it comes to fine art and top interior design and I wanted to share my inspiring trip with you!

Design Miami signage and my view from Epic Hotel

After stepping off of the plane and feeling the warm sun on my face, a quick wardrobe change and hotel check-in were in order. I was given a recommendation to stay at the Epic Hotel, and am very glad I took it. The views were amazing, what a perfect name for a very epic place to stay. I immediately felt the hip Miami vibe with its surreal architecture and booming nightlife. I couldn’t wait to get out and explore!

Two modern sculptural pieces on display during Art Basel.

A classic Leger (one of my favorites) and a controversial bathroom piece on display during Art Basel.

Art Basel – also known as the favorite winter meeting place for the international art world – was very motivating. The art exhibits had a perfect pairing of renowned artists and the up and coming modern artists of today. It was very fascinating to see the ability of today’s global artists.

This was an interactive piece from a gallery in Berlin. The mirrored tube created a kaleidoscope effect as you brought your head to the opening. Could be fitting for my next holiday card!

I had a wonderful time reflecting and connecting with the Leaders of Design Council, an exclusive group of design leaders of today. It’s an inspiring set of people and I thoroughly enjoyed our lunch together at Holly Hunt. I wasn’t able to snap any pictures during lunch – but the showroom is full of beautifully chic and modern pieces. I could redesign my entire home from that one showroom alone!

Design Miami was equally as inspiring – and did I mention the cocktail parties? First was the Architectural Digest sponsored party at The Raleigh, which was followed by a wonderful launch party that Luxe Interiors + Design hosted at Setai Miami on Friday night. We chatted with Pamela Jaccarino, editor-in-chief, over light hors d’oeuvres by the reflection pond while Domenico Vacca was showcasing his complete crystal gift and bar collection. I have been all about crystal glassware lately, and these were absolutely gorgeous – just the right weight.

It would take a small book to recap my vacation as a whole, but I hope this gave you enough inspiration to get you to think about next year’s Art Basel! It was a fabulous treat filled with sunshine on my face and beautiful design at my fingertips. It really is inspiring to be surrounded by the best pieces of our time while connecting with other top designers – a perfect pair!
